Stone to Stone
2009
8"x5"
Watercolor on paper made from stone

I had been drawing these simple abstract stones as an exploration to express the dynamics of relationship, much in the way that Morandi paints a still life. When I found a journal with paper made from stone, I decided it would be the right surface to try a 40-day meditation that had been suggested to me. Instead of meditating or praying in the traditional method, I chose to do a watercolor of stones per day. The simplicity of the structure allowed me to witness change over subtle variation. Stone to Stone represents a selection from the 40-day period and my continued practice.

About Terraskin paper: “This paper was not made from wood, no water or bleach was used in its production. It has the look and feel of paper but was derived from natural stone. It is water and oil resistant, anti-bacterial, recyclable and biodegradable. This material is made from minerals so it easily disintegrates back into the Earth.”
