RECEIPT TAPESTRY SERIES
2017-2019, materials: receipts, waxed linen thread, jewelry wire, metal
In this series, I use receipts as sculptural material to look at consumption. Working with receipts rolled and bound with wire, the bar codes, product names, and corporate identities are simultaneously hidden and exposed. This material is then beaded together and transformed into tapestries. Historically, tapestries have been a textile art used for communication; here, the tapestries voice the complicated story of contemporary consumerist culture.
