SCAPULAR SERIES: CONSUMER PROTECTION
2013, 48" x 60, materials: receipts, thread, cloth, paper ribbon, Copic marker, metal pins, canvas, acrylic paint
In Consumer Protection, altered receipts reveal the sacred and profane words within consumer culture. The receipts cut and sewn form 40 scapulars attached with metal pins onto painted canvas forming a stabile. The transformed receipts resonate with new meanings and new meditations on the actions of our daily lives. When read as a whole, this piece invites the reader to participate in the co-creation of a poetic text each time it is viewed. No two people will read this piece in the same order, releasing new tensions and new possibilities for personal meaning making.
